Are you in your 30s and worried it’s too soon for aesthetic treatments?

When it comes to anti-ageing, prevention is better than cure, so your early thirties is a perfect time to start!

At this time, we are probably only going to notice the early signs of ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles, and some subtle volume loss. If you are a sun worshipper, you may also start to notice some hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone.

A lot of these concerns are caused by the decrease in collagen, the main structural protein found in our skin. When we are very young, we have lots of high quality ‘type 1’ collagen which gives us that youthful plumpness we long for as time goes by!

From the age of 18, we lose roughly 1% of our collagen each year, causing us to wrinkle and sag. It declines even more steeply during the menopause so it’s important to do all we can to create as much collagen as possible before then.

Fine lines and wrinkles develop partly from the constant use of our facial muscles, whether it’s frowning, laughing or smiling.

Volume loss is caused by fat pad herniation, or ‘slipping’ downwards, noticeable under the eyes, as well as in the apples of the cheeks. Gravity starts to kick in in our 30s and we may see less definition in our jawline as well as hollowing of the temples.

So, what can we do about these early signs of ageing?

Anti-wrinkle injections are a very popular treatment among clients in this age group. Lines which have developed through repeated facial expressions, are normally not too deep at this age and relaxing these muscles with anti-wrinkle treatment can often completely reverse their formation, and prevent them from deepening. Left too long, we would have to treat them with dermal filler instead so the sooner we act the better.

Dermal filler is a great treatment option for volume loss in the tear troughs, apples of the cheeks and temples. This can give a refreshed and subtle rejuvenation appearance, without being obvious.

Textural concerns can be tackled effectively with tixel, and microneedling which deliver controlled trauma to the skin, causing it to repair itself with better quality collagen and elastin. These can tighten open pores, and smooth your skin to regain a more youthful look.

Now is also a great time to future proof your muscle mass, strength and mobility with Emsculpt Neo and freeze away stubborn fat with Coolsculpting. Both are ideal post-pregnancy treatments as Emsculpt Neo can also improve diastsatis recti.

In terms of products, now is certainly the time to invest in a retinol from the ZO range, as well as start taking high quality collagen supplements from ZENii.
